Alternative Capital
We were an early champion of third-party capital, such as catastrophe bonds and collateralized vehicles, as early as 2006 when Flatiron Re was formed to meet property needs of insurers. More recently, we have built an insurance-linked security (ILS) platform and our acquisition of the Barbican syndicates at Lloyd’s has expanded our relationships.

Our Underwriters
At Arch Re, we employ a disciplined underwriting approach, focusing on areas where we can bring stability and forge long-term relationships with ceding companies and brokers. We ensure that each cedant’s risks are priced appropriately, based on its circumstances. Risks are typically evaluated on various factors, including:
- Historical loss data on the cedant and, where available, on the industry as a whole in the relevant region(s).
- Projections of future loss frequency and severity.
- Cedant’s financial strength.
- Cedant’s perceived commitment to its business and its reinsurer.
- Geographic area in which the cedant does business, together with its catastrophe exposures, and our exposure in that area.
Many of our underwriters are also actuaries. Employing actuaries on the front end of the underwriting process gives us a key advantage in evaluating risks, and helps us to build a stable, high-quality book of business.
Our Offerings
We offer treaty and facultative property and casualty reinsurance on a worldwide basis, including property catastrophe; property; liability; marine; aviation and space; trade credit and surety; agriculture; accident, life and health; and other specialty lines of coverage such as terrorism and political risk.
